The Art Update Week 7

The Art Update Week 7

Another week, another Art Update! Hi friends, thanks for being here.

Inspiration

As spring floods the valley with bright pops of color, I'm immediately drawn back to my love for bold, slightly reckless color palettes. I've been saving and curating a few favorites throughout the week, I'll share a few here.

New Work

I'm continuing a weekly practice of creating mini paintings (5x7), also called studies. A study is a quick sketch and/or painting used to explore a larger idea - a place to play with color, light, and composition before committing to a larger canvas or project.

I have a few larger projects in the works, and to prepare for them, I've been doing one study a week.

These studies, or "minis" as I've been calling them, will all be part of one larger painting, a patchwork of imagery and little experiments I can refer back to as the collection takes shape.

This week, I used a photo of a kitchen from an old apartment to get started, doing a quick sketch and playing with color and texture.

This is the first of many "minis" that will go on this paper. It will eventually become the blueprint for a larger, interactive project.

Cool colors in your rendition of the kitchen.
I wonder if those ’reckless" colors will ever cross the threshold into real kitchens?
