The Art Update Week 6
After a week away, I'm back in the studio and doing my best to put a few words together to tell you about the River, what this week held, and what's coming.
The River
Last week was spent floating down the Green River through Desolation Canyon with good friends and good food. We spent our days on the water soaking in the sun and the colors of the desert. The nights were spent looking at stars slightly hidden by the brightness of the moon, and laughing at dumb jokes and MadLibs. A reminder that less can truly be more.

Sketch Book
We eat well on these river trips. Each group comes ready to impress with a meal for everyone to share. Although we have a nice camp kitchen set up, I'm always so grateful to be back in my own kitchen when I get home. There's just something about running water from a sink that feels almost indulgent after doing dishes in a tub using boiled river water.
My kitchen gratitude inspired this week's sketchbook illustrations. I encouraged people to send me a photo of their own kitchen, and I chose one to paint. It was a good way to wade back into work.

This project was so much fun. If there's a space in your home you love, email me a photo of it and it may be my next sketchbook painting.
Inspiration
Did I mention the colors of the desert? I'm obsessed with the reds, oranges, browns, and golds of the canyons we explored. I diligently captured photos and memories of the colors to practice reproducing them in the studio. This weekend will be a little marathon of paint mixing to see if I can recreate some of the magnificent colors of the cliffs.

This Week and What's Coming
This week consisted mostly of emails, editing photos for print, and processing orders. I'll have new paintings for you next week, along with updates on print orders and summer markets.

It was wonderful to be away and unplugged, and I'm grateful to feel excited to be home and back in the studio.
Thank you so much for being here and taking the time to read my Art Update!
