Welcome to the Art Update

Welcome to the Art Update

Hi everyone, welcome to The Art Update, a weekly short-form editorial blog post about what I'm working on in the studio each week.

I've had many friends, family, and longtime collectors ask me how they can keep up with what I'm doing in the studio if they're not on social media platforms, and this is what I came up with! My goal is to post once a week, and you'll receive an email each week with a link to the post.

In these posts, I'll share photos of art I'm working on or WIPs (works in progress), finished pieces, sketchbook pages, event and collection updates, along with fun things happening in the studio: media and books I'm loving, artists I'm obsessing over, and other inspirations.

The Art Update will be posted each Thursday evening, so welcome, I'm glad your here!

Sketchbook Page:

Sketchbook pages are the foreshadowing for what will eventually go on canvas. Last week's page was a dive into color, texture, and spring whimsy.

To play with texture I dyed and painted a small piece of fabric for the rug, I love that it doesn't align with the perspective horizon line in the image, it brings in childlike whimsy.

The joy of a sketchbook painting is the freedom to explore color and pattern. I really went for it with this one, channeling springtime and joy, getting detailed with pattern and wild with color. The couch is partially cut out of the page to collage the fabric in, so the textures can be overlapped and create a more visceral viewing experience. This style carries over to my current work in progress.

Current WIP

Pulling from my last sketchbook page, I'm repeating the style and concept on a larger scale, using a different color pallet. I am currently obsessed with these deep earthy tones, burnt orange, deep blue, brick reds.

Creating my collage pieces.

*I want this groovy lamp for my own house.*

An example of how the pieces will fit together when they are finished.

Finishing up the boarder on this painting is the last but most tedious step. I'll have updates next week!

Finished Artworks

Each of the below works is inspired by the Psychopomp, an animal believed in folklore to be a guid to the soul, showing them the paths and doorways to new worlds, thoughts, ideas and the afterlife.

"Rabbit as Psychopomp"

"Ravens as Psychopomp"

Each of these works will be availble as prints in the near future!
